What Can I Add To My Water To Make It Taste Better?
It may feel like liquid gold after a workout, but let’s be honest, water all day every day can just feel bland… It doesn’t matter that we understand how important water is for our health - we start looking for loopholes as to what else we might be able to drink and this is where poor decision making can start, sabotaging our efforts for a healthier lifestyle.
Speaking with Shahna Sharpi, Nutritionist and owner of Project Nourish, I learn there are plenty of ways, without negatively impacting health, that we can flavour our water. And no, this does not extend to calorie loaded cordial!
“When it comes to what to add to your water, there are a number of fruits, herbs and spices that you can add individually or mix together in delicious combinations. Whilst offering flavour, they also provide the added benefit of the particular ingredient that you are infusing your water with.”
So with that in mind, to help those of us who perhaps struggle to drink enough water each day, I decided to put together a list as to what to add to water to make it taste better. Arriving at a grand total of three, lemon, lime and/or mint (so original, I know…), I decided the best thing to do was to share Shahna’s top picks for what to infuse your water with for a better taste:
- Citrus (lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit)
- Berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)
- Stone fruit (apricots, peaches)
- Pineapple and kiwi fruit
- Coconut chunks
- Cucumber
- Spices (fresh ginger, fresh turmeric, cinnamon stick, clove)
- Herbs (mint, rosemary, thyme)
A jug of flavoured water in the fridge, will ensure that you always have an option when you are looking for those loopholes and another glass of plain water just won’t cut it!
